Parents sponsorship - lawyer or no lawyer?

Hi,

I'm just looking to see if anyone has experience sponsoring their parents for residency, specifically if they have any experience using a lawyer. When I did my application, I had the time and of course, lack of money, so i did the research and did everything myself. My application took forever, and I don't have any idea why. There were no problems, CIC didn't complain that i had something missing or ask for any more information. It just took much longer than the average.

Now, I want to apply to sponsor my parents, and i'm considering going through a lawyer. I don't have any experience with lawyers, but I assume going through an immigration lawyer, they would know exactly what is required and how best to tackle the whole process so in my mind, it would speed it up. Also, if there are any complications, they would be able to jump on it ASAP. However, I don't know if it's absolutely necessary, or if it's just a waste of money. I cannot afford to take the risk of delays or complications with my parents - they are old and don't have any home and i really need them here in Canada with me. I'm just looking for any advice from others out there that may have gone through something similar.
