It does have crime, but what big city doesn't have crime. Its only in certain parts of the city and suburbs like any other big city are crime free. It has lot of history and the old building and locations can be a bit intimidating. But the history is what makes Philly great. Of course, like any other east coast city, you dont have to worry about racism or profiling or any sort.

One thing you dont have here much is good indian restaurants lol! There are very few good ones. Even very few movie theaters play indian movies. So if one wants a all desi experience and life style, Philly is not the city.

Thanks for your reply. I read your other reply too. Good restaurants like Biryani City, Manam are doing great business nowadays. Indian movies are regularly available in Oaks. So, those points are covered nowadays.

However, other worrying signs are coming up in this area. Major Pharma and Cable employer (you know them :)) in this area opened big offices in TX and moved the jobs there. There are no new companies setup headquarters here. All are going to TX. Areas, I pointed are good. But, if you go to any of these areas these days, you would feel the deserted look. No new shops, more closed shops. I am sure Philly needs second HQ of Amazon more than any other city. Else, PA is the next CT.

I'm a Software QA Lead from Los Angeles county drawing $120K and looking for a job change. Any suggestion on cities which offer better salary in this field? I don't care about being close to school areas or desi areas. I'm thinking Bay Area or New York city. Any inputs?
